Enrichments

SBCS is blessed with an excellent library, computers, music room and art studio in order to offer our students enrichments beyond the core curriculum.

All students participate in PE classes which emphasize fitness and the skills necessary to excel in the Presidential Fitness Test. After school sports include volleyball, basketball and flag football, with plans to add more offerings in the near future.

Our library boasts an excellent selection of books for our children and the opportunity to read on a consistent basis. Elementary students have a weekly library class and all students are encouraged to visit, check out books or use the space for study.

The music program at SBCS teaches each child the fundamentals of voice and keyboard. An SBCS distinctive is that we offer piano instruction to all students in grades 2-8, a special program not many schools have the ability to offer. Students are also afforded the opportunity to sing at various events throughout the year, including Christmas performances and an annual Spring Sing. We hope to encourage a lifelong love of music in each student.

Spanish is a core subject for students in grades 6-8 and follows Glencoe’s Buen Viaje curriculum. We deeply value second language instruction and seek to expand this program into the elementary grades in years to come.

At the beginning of the year, the middle school visits Forest Home Camp in Ojai for a time of community building and spiritual direction. This trip is an annual tradition that deepens the sense of community amongst our middle school staff and students that is palpable when you visit our campus
